Indigo Airlines Adopts RNP Technology: First In India To Do So

Indigo Airlines has been filling its yearbooks with achievements ever since its inception, but the year 2012 has clearly been among its most successful ones. The airline has achieved the top spot as market leader of the Indian commercial aviation skies, won the Best Low Cost Airline in Central Asia and India as well as the Best Staff Service in Central Asia and India Award at the Skytrax World Airline Awards 2012, and also completed six years of its existence in one of the most difficult markets in the world.

Yet another achievement that points towards the airline’s continual thrust towards adopting new technologies is the implementation of the Required Navigation Performance (RNP) approach during the landing procedure of one of their Bangalore Kochi flights. The achievement is even more significant considering the fact that Indigo Airlines was the first airline in the Indian subcontinent to make use of this technology in regular operations.

Quovadis, the Airports Authority of India (AAI), and the Directorate General of Civil Aviation in India all came together with Indigo to try out this new approach system that is set to change the way airplanes land on runways. The new approach system is said to be among the most accurate systems in the world, with specific flight paths and landing trajectories that are set to save fuel to the tune of 400kgs per landing.

Always pushing the envelope as far as new technologies are concerned, Indigo Airlines is truly an airline worthy of praise.
